Hunting over and training our dogs is our passion. We thoroughly enjoy pheasant hunting and all of our dogs hunt in Wisconsin, South Dakota, and North Dakota ensuring they all get a chance to get several birds. In addition to pheasant we also hunt ducks and Canadian geese. Outside the hunting season we compete with our dogs in both AKC and UKC hunt tests.

Five Star Labradors is a small kennel breeding only a few select litters a year. Our breeding program is focused around five main criteria that together produce the ultimate hunting companion puppies. These criteria together form our five star differences:

Pedigree

Our puppies pedigrees contain some of the most accomplished dogs in Field Trials and Hunt Tests. Their bloodlines give them the best start at natural hunting and retrieving ability.

Health clearances and Wellness

All of our dams are certified by the OFA and CERF as well as EIC and CNM tested to ensure as much as possible that our dogs are free of genetic defects. We only breed dogs that are OFA good or excellent, and make sure that none of our puppies are affected by EIC or CNM.
In addition to health clearances we also have an extensive wellness program which includes high quality nutrition as well as a full vaccination, heartworm, and flea and tick preventative treatment schedule. We feed Blue Buffalo Large Breed Adult and Large Breed Puppy food, which provides top quality nutrition to our dogs and puppies, and helps ensure proper growth rate to help prevent growth problems associated with large breed dogs. We ensure that all of our dogs kept in a safe and sanitary environment either in our home or in one of our large indoor/outdoor climate controlled dog runs.

Trainability and Desire to work

We select dogs for our breeding program that have proven to be easy to train and have a high desire to work. All of our females have been proven in the field both in training and hunting and we select top sires around the country to breed them to.

Personality and Disposition

As we are breeding for dogs that are as much companion dogs as hunting dogs we have selected dogs that have a high intensity in the field but are calm and relaxed in the house. In addition we place high emphasis on making sure that our dogs are personable with adults, children, and other animals.

Socialization and Imprinting

Socialization and Imprint work play a large role in proper development of puppies. With socialization and imprinting puppies will be much easier to train and will adapt to new environments and situations much easier. We begin working on imprinting and socialization within 24 hours after birth and continue until the day they leave for their new homes.
